Q: How much do you charge for a teardown?
A: Depending on the house, the cost on average ranges from $15,000 - $20,000.
Q: How long does a teardown typically take?
A: The bulldozing only takes about 1-2 hours. The organization and clean-up of the debris take another day or two. Total duration: about 2-3 days.
Q: What are you able to reuse, recycle, donate, etc. prior to tearing the house down?
A: All of the old appliances go to a recycling facility.
The concrete from the foundation and basement floor slab will go to a crusher to be recycled and reused as a road base.
The rest of the house debris goes to the landfill.
In some cases, an owner may want to try and salvage or re-use some of the cabinetry, flooring, or bricks for their new house. We often caution that this can be less cost-inefficient but are happy to oblige our clients who wish to go this route!
Swanson Homeowners Story: When our Modern Minnetonka clients were planning their teardown, they decided to preserve these two original bricks in the backsplash of the kitchen pantry as a nod to the previous homeowners and home. We love that they decided to savor a tiny bit of history as they designed a home to build new memories!
Q: What is the advantage to a complete teardown vs keeping the foundation of the original home?
A: The ability to build and design the home you want vs relying on the existing engineering and area limitations of the original foundation.
Q: Can you teardown year-round?
A: Yes! We teardown homes in every season, even winter!
Q: What is the next step after a teardown?
A: After the debris is completely scooped off the property the site is ready to be excavated to align with the new home's design and architecture!
