What All Happens Before Your Dig Day
Dig day is often one of the most exciting milestones for our homeowners on their dream home journey. Celebrating the excavation is always fun for our team as well as a great way to highlight the hard work that our homeowners and partners have put into the process so far.
When starting out on your home building journey it is important to have insight on how the process works and what you can expect from your builder. Prior to the day where digging begins, there are many things to get squared away and here is what that process looks like with the Swanson Homes team!
1. Finding the perfect spot
Whether you already have your site picked out, or you need help finding a neighborhood and specific lot, our team members are going to help you get organized on the location of your home and set it up to prioritize future planning items (read more on that here).
Finding the perfect location to build a new home is what many of our homeowners value about the exploration part of our process. We have the inside scoop on the best communities, land opportunities, and how to make the most of a given site. Additionally, our expansive network helps to provide insight on soon to be available new properties, often before they hit the open market. You can trust us to help you find the perfect location for your future home.
We are currently showcasing two beautiful developments in the Wayzata school district; Hollydale Neighborhood, and The Ridge at Elm Creek neighborhood. Both of these developments have few available lot left to purchase as the development is selling out quickly, so if you are at all interested act fast. They also both feature cul-de-sac lots with private wooded views and a neighborhood pool. For lot availability & pricing head to our neighborhood page here.
2. Architectural design and designing the floor plan layout
Next, we’ll work with one of our talented local Architectural Design firms, or a different firm of your choosing, to create a plan that promotes your lifestyle and showcases your architectural
preferences. You will find that our team and Architectural Design partners are skilled at asking the right questions to foster an efficient, enjoyable, and most importantly, successful planning
process.
The Swanson team in collaboration with the architect's extensive experience provides a professional set of eyes to help with spotting potential design issues and proposing innovative ideas to overcome or enhance the design of your home. From the floor plan to the exterior, we will be involved in each design meeting to assist with your questions and to keep your project and budget on track.

3. Finalize your contract with our proposal of the project
Once the building plans are completed, the Swanson Homes team will begin the process of compiling all the various estimated cost components and specification details necessary to construct the home. With this completion, the client is presented with a new build proposal that outlines the price, terms, and specifications.
This is the final pre-production step, as once this proposalis agreed to, a building permit can be applied for, and production scheduling can begin. It’s important to note that should something need to be changed in order to better balance all goals of the project, modifications to items such as the plans, specifications, or features are still possible prior to the execution of the build proposal contract.
4. Start working with Carbon 6 Interiors on your design selections
